Student rep highlights state and national successes for Norris students

Jackson Undercheck, the student representative, opened the meeting with a roundup of spring student achievements and said the district had “an exceptional” spring season. He told the Board that Norris SkillsUSA sent nine students to Grand Island for technical and leadership competitions and that the FBLA chapter earned the Sweepstakes award statewide and the Gold Seal of Merit, with a chapter business report placing third in the state and sending Jenna Earnest to Nationals.
Jackson highlighted the speech team's performance at the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions in Minneapolis, reporting that seniors Iona Cassias finished third nationally in poetry interpretation and Zoe Doty finished fifth. He and district staff thanked administration and the Board for supporting the speech program’s trip to nationals.
Athletics and extracurriculars also featured prominently. Jackson reported that the middle- and high-school trap teams returned multiple top-20 individual finishes and team honors, and that the boys 4x100 relay set a school record (41.78 seconds). He said boys soccer finished 8-8-0 with a district final loss while girls soccer won districts and would play in the state tournament that evening. Jackson closed by thanking the Board for support (including the recent bond effort) and for resources that enable student activities.
District administrators acknowledged the student leaders’ work, noting the role of volunteers and boosters in supporting activities and travel. The Board did not take formal action related to the student report; the segment was informational and concluded with applause and thanks to participating students.
