The Okaloosa County School Board on April 13 voted 4-0 to accept the appointment of Charlie Marello to a district administrative role, Superintendent Chambers announced during the meeting.
Superintendent Chambers introduced Marello, outlining his career from teacher and coach to principal at Destin Middle and Niceville High School and his service with regional secondary school organizations. "I bring before you in this item Mr. Charlie Marello," Chambers said when presenting the appointment. Mr. Destin made the motion to accept the appointment and Mr. Heinley seconded; the board recorded an "I" vote and the motion passed unanimously.
After the vote, Marello addressed the board and attendees, thanking colleagues and family and saying he looked forward to joining the Okaloosa County School District human-resources team under "the leadership of Miss Lindseay Maxi." "I am just ready to learn from all of you and help out the team any way that I can," he said, and recounted his prior roles in Walton County and Okaloosa County schools.
Marello named several colleagues and family members during his remarks and described the transition from high-school principal to a district-level post as an opportunity to serve a broader student and staff population. The board paused briefly after the remarks to congratulate the new appointee.
There was no public comment on the appointment. The board moved on to routine business and consent items after the recess.
