Microseal finishes to complete street projects; Shie named acting public-works director during recruitment

City staff said seasonal microsealing — the final surface coat applied when temperatures allow — will start Monday and Tuesday next week on multiple street segments and will complete the city's street resurfacing projects for the year. "This is like the last coat of paint basically that you put on a street to make it look nice after it's been redone," the Moderator said, adding that striping will follow in about one to two weeks and that residents along affected streets have been notified and parking restrictions posted.
Staff praised the public-works team for completing this year's program and asked residents to heed posted no-parking signs while crews work. The Moderator said the microseal material's availability is seasonal, tied to climate and temperature, which is why the work is scheduled now.
On staffing, city staff said interviews were held for a project-manager position and the recruitment remains open with two vacancies to fill. The Moderator said there were six applicants for the public-works director position and that Shie, the project's current project manager, will step in as acting director beginning May 21 to keep CIP and project-management work moving. "Project management work will still continue," the Moderator said.
The city said it will complete remaining striping and finalize the street list in communications to residents; schedule details and a map will be posted alongside the Friday letter.
