Buckeye Local board approves one-time transfers into capital fund, okays junior-high fire panel; stadium lights options to be decided

The Buckeye Local Board of Education voted May 12 to move several one-time sums into its capital projects fund and to approve a safety purchase for Buckeye Junior High.
During the non-consent portion of the meeting the board authorized three transfers that together move $5,555,000 into the district's capital projects fund (Fund 070): $890,000 from the Permanent Improvement Fund (003), $1,575,000 from the Sales Tax Fund (071) and $3,000,000 from the General Fund. The board also approved a separate agreement with Qualcomm to install a new fire panel at Buckeye Junior High at a cost of $29,985.50.
Board members voted on each motion by roll call. The sales-tax transfer recorded one dissenting vote; the other measures passed. The board did not adopt a recommendation tonight to replace stadium lights, which were damaged in a March storm. Administration outlined three paths: full replacement (the most permanent and most expensive), repair/realignment if poles and footings are reusable, or temporary leased lighting for the upcoming season. Staff said they will continue to work with insurance and bring options back in a post-Memorial Day work session for a possible action at the June meeting.
The finance and facilities discussion also included an overview of the district's capital plan and projected project envelope. Administration described the current plan as a one-time consolidation of capital funds intended to centralize project dollars for the new high school and campus upgrades; specific project budgets and timing will be presented as schematic designs and funding transactions are finalized.
Board President Mrs. Gaukeman and district staff emphasized that schematic designs are still drafts and that no decisions have been made on the football stadium itself. Board members asked for a committee to study athletic facilities and for clearer written plans before committing major funds to stadium projects.
The meeting concluded after additional routine consent approvals and several announcements.
