Homewood honors boys track and field team after 6A state title; state representative presents resolution

Homewood City honored the Homewood High School boys track and field team at its May 18 council meeting after the team won the 2026 AHSAA Class 6A State Outdoor Championship.
A state representative presented a House resolution congratulating the team for scoring 76.5 points to win the meet by 8.5 points over Northridge and for qualifying 25 athletes for the state championship. The representative read event- and athlete-specific accomplishments included in the resolution.
Mayor Jennifer Andress read a city proclamation that reiterated the team's second consecutive outdoor state title, noted athletes and coaches by name, and extended the city's appreciation for the team's accomplishments.
Head coach Logan Kernut thanked the athletes and coaching staff and invited the team forward for photos. The council paused its agenda to present the proclamation and take group photographs with the coaches and players.
The presentation concluded with the council returning to business and routine announcements and adjournment.
