York City HRC updates casework, outreach and event plans; library purchases and magnets budgeted

Commissioners and staff reviewed administrative matters, recent casework and outreach plans during the meeting. Staff said the case ledger will be fully updated in June and explained that many current cases involve race, disability, national origin, age, sex and familial status. The chair noted some legacy entries in the case log date back to 2007 and staff said they are working to clarify closing dates and outcomes for previously logged cases.
Staff described the HRC’s referral process to the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission (PHRC): the local office compiles an intake with a local case number, sends it to PHRC, and closes the local file once the state agency accepts the intake as part of a shared work process. Commissioners were asked to help publicize the HRC’s availability to assist residents and to encourage reporting when incidents occur.
Commissioners discussed outreach materials and events. The HRC plans to order magnets (QR code included) as a durable outreach tool rather than one-time flyers; requisitions for magnets and posters are pending procurement. Staff requested commissioners staff the HRC table at the Stop the Violence event on June 13 at Pen Park and described a diversity event planned for Welcome Week on September 17 at the Valencia Ballroom (5–9 p.m.).
The Martin Library director said $700–$850 is budgeted in the HRC books and subscriptions line to update the commission’s on-site collection, including bilingual children’s books to support families visiting the office. The library director said this collection will remain part of the HRC’s holdings in the building and is not being distributed to other branches.
The commission moved and seconded approval of the February and April minutes; both motions were approved by voice vote. A motion to adjourn carried by voice vote and the meeting concluded.
