At its May 18 meeting the Brandy Wine School District board took several routine and governance actions.
The board approved the consent agenda and then approved personnel matters and student matters (votes recorded by roll call with at least one abstention noted for each of those personnel and student votes). The board accepted a revision to the 2026–27 calendar that moves a professional development day (October 9) to a regular student instructional day (September 15) following a state scheduling change.
District staff reported a minor edit to a lease with the Boys & Girls Club: the organization requested two additional closet spaces, increasing its occupied percentage from 24% to 25% and raising the build-out amount accordingly. The board approved the lease and confirmed the contract contains language prohibiting subleasing.
On the student code of conduct (second reading), Dr. Yolanda McKini asked for final approval but several board members raised concerns about proposed search-and-seizure language (page 21 of the draft). Members requested attorney review and a focused workshop discussion; the board voted to table final approval until the June meeting after a June 1 workshop discussion and pending legal review of the search-and-seizure section.
