Central CUSD 301 board adopts updated policy manual, approves salaries, textbooks and immunization change

The Central CUSD 301 Board of Education voted to adopt a revised district policy manual and to enroll in PRESS Plus, the Illinois Association of School Boards policy-tracking service, during its regular meeting. Trustees said the service will help the district receive updated legal citations and recommended policy changes as state law evolves.
The action was part of a broader slate of approvals. The board approved administrative non-EA salary adjustments for the 2026–27 school year and adopted new textbooks for Heritage Spanish (for native speakers), Spanish One, AP Psychology and AP American Government. Trustees also approved overnight student trips for Best Buddies (July 17–20) and the SkillsUSA state competition (April 23–26).
On health policy, the board approved a change to the district's "first-day exclusion" process related to immunizations. Under the approved change, staff will not send students home on Oct. 15 for lacking immunization documentation; district nurses and communications staff (identified in the meeting as Matt and building nurses) will front-load outreach and report back at the start of the school year on implementation.
The board handled personnel items in two votes: honorable dismissal of educational support staff and a separate vote on part-time educational support dismissals. Both motions passed on roll call. Trustees also approved the consolidated district plan — the annual document outlining curricular goals and grant-funded strategies — after administrators described it as a collaborative product involving curriculum staff and community advisory groups.
Board members said the policy manual review was conducted by a policy committee in consultation with IASB/PRESS representatives and recommended quarterly briefings as new legal citations arrive. One trustee noted a blank dollar amount in the draft expense-reimbursement policy; administrators said they will backfill the current number and bring it forward for confirmation.
The meeting transitioned to an executive session to discuss personnel matters, litigation and collective bargaining as allowed under 5 ILCS 120-2 C1, C11 and C2. The open meeting record shows roll-call votes on the actions described above; no additional public votes were recorded before the executive session.
