Region 12 board approves three textbooks and advances kindergarten admission policy for first reading

Miss Snowden, the district's director of curriculum, presented the textbooks and explained each course: a humanities course titled Contemporary Social Issues in Sport (a Yukon/CTE-recommended text), an Accounting Fundamentals text for an introduction-to-accounting course, and Print Reading for Industry to support a CAD/AutoCAD credential through the district's college-and-career accelerator pathway. Snowden said the print-reading course is intended to let students earn credentialing in AutoCAD while remaining in-district rather than traveling to an off-site program.
The board moved and seconded each textbook adoption and approved all three by voice vote.
On policy, the superintendent described an update to Policy 5111 (Admission and Placement) driven by a change in state regulation: the district will remove waiver language and adopt a firm requirement that kindergarten entrants be 5 years old by Sept. 1 of the school year. The board approved the policy for first reading by voice vote.
Treasurer Alex gave a combined treasurer/FNO report earlier in the meeting, reporting routine financials, a current budget balance of about 9.47% remaining, and an update on capital projects including a new generator installation; he also said the district will incur monitoring costs to meet pollution-control requirements.
