The Regional School District 12 board presented a proposed annual budget of $27,282,967 at its May 4 meeting and adjourned the district meeting until Tuesday, May 5 so the question can be voted at polling places in Bridgewater, Roxbury and Washington.
Chairwoman Jen Pod read the official notice and the budget figure as required by statute, saying the presentation was "in accordance with section 10-51 of general statutes." She told attendees that copies of the proposed budget are on file with the three town clerks and at the district central office.
The board explained the adjournment procedure for the district meeting: the meeting was formally adjourned to the day of the vote and will be considered concluded after the polls close and results are announced. Polling locations and hours were provided for each town during the meeting.
Board members approved the procedural motion to adjourn the district meeting to allow the town-by-town vote by voice vote. The meeting will reconvene only for announcement of the voting results following the close of polls.
The process is a statutory requirement for district-level budget votes; voters in Bridgewater, Roxbury and Washington will decide whether to approve the proposed budget at their respective polling places on May 5.
