The Jefferson County Commission voted unanimously to approve Mayor’s Resolution 2026-28 authorizing procurement of turnout gear for county fire departments under a previously awarded CDBG grant.
County Mayor Mark Pototts told commissioners the purchase will provide 128 sets of turnout gear “at no cost to the county,” noting the grant covers about 84 percent of the expense and individual fire departments will reimburse the remaining 16 percent. The mayor said closing out the grant now will make the county eligible to apply for future CDBG funding in September and October.
Commissioners proceeded to a roll-call vote after brief procedural questions; the motion passed 16–0. The resolution formalizes acceptance of the vendor terms under cooperative purchasing and authorizes staff to complete procurement to satisfy grant closeout requirements.
No commissioner raised substantive objections to the procurement; questions were procedural and focused on computer/roll-call logistics during the meeting. The resolution will be executed to allow delivery and distribution of the gear to requesting fire departments.
