Bluffton Township Fire District marked a groundbreaking for Station 39 in Sun City, and Fire Chief David Hinman told Beaufort County News the new station will strengthen emergency response in the neighborhood.
"This is a huge investment not only in the community here in Sun City, but also in the fire district, allowing us to just improve our service delivery to the residents," Chief David Hinman said. He said positioning the station within the neighborhood "cuts that response time down" and allows crews to deliver care more effectively.
Hinman explained that fire personnel often lead emergency medical responses and that all district personnel are at least emergency medical technicians, with multiple paramedics on staff. "It's who can get there first to give them the care that they need," he said.
On recruitment, Hinman described programs for youth and new hires: an explorer program that begins at age 16, career-program partnerships with local school career centers, and active hiring for applicants age 18 and older with paid training during onboarding.
