Parent urges Mechanicsburg Area SD board to reverse April expulsion decision

Christopher Kapata told the Mechanicsburg Area School District Board of Directors on May 12 that a hearing officer issued a detailed ruling in a matter involving his daughter, Molly Ley, and urged the board to distance itself from district administration’s earlier action. "By now you have been made aware of the ruling made by the hearing officer in a matter regarding our daughter Molly Ley," Kapata said during the second public-comment period.

Kapata said the hearing officer’s report is “detailed and condemning” and called on the board to prepare and pass a motion to reverse the 8–0 board vote taken April 14. He said reversing that vote would send "a clear message that you as a school board will not condone the regretful actions" he attributes to district administration.

The board record for the May 12 meeting shows it adopted an agreement and waiver of hearing related to a student discipline case and ordered the expulsion of “Student I of 2025–26,” effective April 20, 2026, for one calendar year, and authorized the superintendent to implement that agreement. The Kapatas identified themselves as district residents; Christopher and his wife, Stevie Kapata, were present and made the appeal during the public-comment period reserved for non-agenda items.
