District reports completion and progress on summer capital projects
Summary
Regional School District 12 staff reported completed and in-progress summer capital projects: athletic field and library renovations, electrical switchgear replacement, elevator renovations and three generator installs expected by year-end; district also replaced central office boiler and upgraded school telecom service.
District facilities staff gave a status update on summer capital projects across Regional School District 12, reporting several completed jobs and multiple installations underway.
Don, speaking for district operations, said Chapag Valley High School completed baseball field and backstop replacements and that the high school library’s construction work is finished and now awaits furniture deliveries. At Booth Free School, crews replaced main electrical switchgear, installed a ground-mounted transformer and have issued RFPs and awarded contracts for elevator renovations and a generator. The Burnham generator permit was received and work will start soon.
Districtwide upgrades include replacement of a central-office boiler and a telecom project described in the report as a move away from legacy twisted-pair copper to a 'pots in a box' solution to reduce monthly costs. Don said the three school generators are expected to be completed by Dec. 31.
Several members thanked facilities staff for the work and noted safety-driven repairs such as replacing damaged playground fencing and fifth-grade carpeting with unsafe flooring.
The board received the update with questions and expressions of appreciation; no formal vote was required.
