Gregg County authorizes tax resale, to apply for unclaimed capital credits and approves interlocal JAG agreement

Gregg County commissioners on April 21 approved multiple finance and grant-related items, including a tax resale, an application for unclaimed capital credits, and an interlocal agreement for a Justice Assistance Grant (JAG).

Stacy Killingsworth of Linebarger presented a tax resale of a vacant lot on Timson Street. The agenda text referenced a $3,280 figure, while Killingsworth said a full-price bid of $3,250 had been received; the court voted to authorize the county judge to execute necessary resale documents to EBS Business Corporation.

The auditor described an annual request to apply for unclaimed capital credits under Local Government Code §381.004 and Texas Property Code §74.602. The auditor cited prior recoveries in recent years with amounts referenced in the meeting as "36,000" and "upwards of 103,000"; staff said recovered monies would be segregated for use supporting local libraries and children's-advocacy programs if approved. The court approved submission of the application.

On a related grant matter, the court approved an interlocal agreement with the city of Liby for the Edward Burn Memorial JAG program award. Max told the court he did not have the exact award amount on hand but believed recent awards had been under $25,000 and that historically the county has designated the award to the city. The court approved the interlocal agreement and instructed staff to proceed with necessary filings.
