Council appoints municipal judge and votes to fly Pride flag in June

The Webster Groves City Council voted unanimously on May 19 to appoint Daniel Nolan as municipal judge, removing resolution 2026-45 from the consent agenda so it could be considered separately.
Mayor Laura Arnold introduced the resolution and said Nolan had been serving in an interim capacity since December 2023 and had worked to bring the court into compliance. Council members voted “yes” on the appointment. Mayor Arnold said the appointment will fill the remainder of the four-year charter term.
Councilors also discussed how to select a provisional judge when needed and directed a small subcommittee to meet with the city attorney, the municipal judge and prosecutors and report back with a recommended process by the council’s second meeting in June. Council Member Mitchell moved to create the subcommittee and the motion passed unanimously.
Later in the agenda, the council considered a request to fly the Pride flag at City Hall during June as a commemorative flag under the city’s flag policy. After brief remarks from Council Member Hassimmire in support of the gesture — “Flying the pride flag at city hall is a simple but powerful statement that every resident of our community is seen, welcomed, and valued” — the council voted unanimously to approve flying the flag.
