Washington County Community Foundation reports grants, scholarships and schedules AI trainings for parents and teachers

Judy Johnson, representing the Washington County Community Foundation, updated the West Washington School Board on the foundation's partnership and recent awards and events.
Johnson said the foundation awarded more than $17,700 in teacher grants this year and more than $58,000 in scholarships to West Washington graduating seniors. The foundation also provided $1,325 to support FFA and sponsored athletics and drama activities. Johnson said these awards are made possible by individual donors to the foundation.
The foundation submitted the reappointment of Josh Seabold to its board; the board approved the reappointment unanimously.
Johnson also encouraged attendance at two training opportunities focused on artificial intelligence: an all-day teacher training scheduled for June 3 and an evening session for parents and grandparents at the West Washington location on June 4 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. She emphasized both the potential benefits and risks of AI for youth and families, saying AI "is not going away" and warning that it can be "quite dangerous" if young people are not taught safe, responsible use.
Johnson said the foundation has materials and a QR code to register for the sessions and that additional registration information is posted on the foundation's Facebook page.
