Board reviews fire marshal findings and discusses classroom power, runners vs. carpet

School staff presented updates from a recent fire marshal inspection and discussed facility improvements and classroom electrical-safety concerns.

Fire marshal follow-up: Staff described an initial inspection in the fall, a 30-day follow-up and more recent walkthroughs. The staff reported they had cleaned, rearranged and corrected several items and walked spaces again with the fire department. They emphasized a recurring modern hazard: classroom power cords for one-to-one devices. Staff and board members discussed options to reduce cord hazards — installing tables with built-in plugs, ceiling-mounted retractable outlets or other organized solutions — with the goal of charging devices safely without creating trip or overload risks.

Maintenance options: The group compared temporary rented runners (Cintas) that are replaced monthly against the cost of installing permanent carpet in heavily trafficked hallways; the board asked staff to obtain quotes to evaluate cost-effectiveness.

Appliance policy: Board members raised concerns about microwaves and other appliances in classrooms interfering with Wi-Fi and consuming space; they suggested improving teacher lounges as an alternative to classroom appliances.

Next steps: Staff will collect quotes for runners and permanent carpeting and continue work to address fire-marshal recommendations and classroom power solutions.
