A commissioner asked what would change for students beyond “boxes checked,” and Dr. Williams, responding at the meeting, said the district is “barely 12 months down the road” and that measuring the work’s effectiveness will take time: “there’s needs…questions about what have we learned from what we’ve done and how well has what we’ve done worked?”
Staff said the district must appoint a compliance monitor and report progress to the Department of Justice, with monitoring described in the meeting as continuing through June 2027. Commissioners asked staff to confirm which body appoints the compliance monitor and to provide a timeline; a staff member directed commissioners to check with the school administration for the operational appointment process.
Commissioners emphasized the need for ongoing public oversight and for periodic evaluation of implemented changes once the monitoring period yields measurable results.
