Commission’s 'Library of the Future' subcommittee to draft Council presentation; work-plan revisions planned

Members of the Library of the Future Ad Hoc subcommittee briefed the Commission on May 18 and volunteered to prepare a draft PowerPoint summarizing the Commission’s work for presentation to the City Council in August.
The subcommittee said it will prepare a draft for the Commission to review in June, solicit feedback in July, and present a final version at the August Council meeting. The presentation will be concise (previous reports ran 5–10 minutes with roughly seven to eight substantive slides), and the subcommittee plans to balance photos and bullet points to fit the Council’s time allotment.
Commissioners discussed the work plan’s five goals: routine commission functions and public engagement; follow-up on Library of the Future recommendations; near- and intermediate-term capital improvements at the Holm Street library; Belle Haven Community Campus items including the Community History Project and Makerspace policies; and onboarding/liaison activities. Several commissioners suggested simplifying the department strategic plan to make it shorter and easier to implement and recommended commissioners consider attending the Council presentation to provide visible support.
Separately, commissioners and staff discussed programming for teens and the role of the TAG (Teen Advisory Group) and the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) in informing Belhaven programming; staff said TAG and YAC input informed the Library of the Future efforts and could be included in the Council presentation.
