Library Commission approves April minutes; selects Westcott as next chair and Crockett as vice chair

During the May 18 meeting, a motion to approve the April minutes was moved and seconded; by roll call the Commission recorded unanimous support and the measure passed. Commissioner Kim Crockett moved to approve the minutes with Commissioner Scott Schaefer seconding, according to the meeting record.
On the item to select a new chair and vice chair, staff reviewed the Commission’s customary seniority-based practice after the prior chair resigned midterm. The Commission moved to select Vice Chair Brian Westcott as chair and Commissioner Kim Crockett as vice chair, with the roles to begin after the June meeting. The motion carried unanimously.
Following the vote, Chair Kara Orton congratulated the incoming leaders: “Okay, congratulations! Thank you very much for your willingness to serve,” she said.
No public comments were recorded on either item. The Commission’s leadership change will be reflected in the Commission calendar and in the August presentation to City Council when the Commission reports on its work plan for 2026–27.
