Millbrook board set for June 10 bid opening; district aims to begin construction in July

The Millbrook Central School District moved a step closer to construction this week as district staff outlined an upcoming public bid opening and a rapid mobilization plan intended to begin work this summer.
Officials said Phase 1A of the district’s capital project is ready for bidding, with a public bid opening scheduled for June 10 at 3 p.m. A pre‑bid walkthrough for interested contractors is set for May 27 at 3 p.m. The district plans to read bids publicly in the board room and then undertake a vetting process led by architects, construction managers and engineers.
“After we read the bids publicly, our construction managers and engineers will vet those bids” for completeness and accuracy, Elliot, the district’s construction lead, told the board. He said the vetting includes checking scope, reference and background checks and ensuring no bid omitted required work. The district intends to recommend awards to the board quickly so contractors can mobilize for July work.
District staff said the work will be phased to keep the building operational during the school year: contractors will work mostly outside school hours and aim to keep no more than two classrooms out of service at any one time. The linkway project is targeted to be open by September, and the first construction visible to the public should be sidewalk bridging and safety fencing.
Elliot noted long lead items, such as windows, have roughly 12‑week procurement times and will be ordered early. Caroline, a district administrator, said bid walkthrough questions and responses will be posted publicly so all bidders receive the same information.
Superintendent remarks stressed safety and communication, including daily notices to building leadership so teachers and families can prepare for temporary room closures. The board was told that prime contracts will include general, electrical and other trades with multiple prime bidders for separate scopes.
The board took no final award action at the meeting; staff said a recommendation to award contracts is expected at a subsequent board meeting after bid vetting and legal review of contract documents.
