DIAB refers student mentorship request to board member offices and student member

Near the end of the May 19 meeting Chair Teresa Smith said a PGCPS student had requested mentorship related to advocacy and asked members for their views. Members welcomed the student's interest but recommended the request be routed through the student's board member office or the student member of the board (SMOB) rather than DIAB serving as the formal mentorship vehicle.
Board member Brown and others offered to help arrange introductions and engagement opportunities; board member Jackson Saunders noted the value of student‑to‑student connections and offered to coordinate outreach with the SMOB and district student groups. Chair Smith said she would CC board member Brown on the response to the inquiry and proceed from there.
No formal mentorship program was established during the meeting; members suggested the student's board member office could connect the student to subcommittee meetings, student leadership (SMOB) and other governance opportunities.
