DIAB will request relief from this year’s annual report deadline while BP1700 is revised

With board policy BP1700 under revision, the Disability Issues Advisory Board agreed May 19 to request relief from the 2025–26 annual‑report deadline and for Chair Smith to work with the board office to draft a letter to the board chair.
At the May 19 meeting, Chair Teresa Smith reminded members that board policy BP1700 requires an annual report from DIAB to the Board of Education. Members noted the policy is under review and recalled prior guidance that DIAB should seek relief from producing a report this year while BP1700 is being revised.
Board office director Cindy Atlon advised submitting a formal letter to the board chair to request relief or an extension. Chair Smith said she would work with the board office to draft and submit that letter on DIAB's behalf.
Members discussed following the board governance calendar and obtaining formal confirmation of any extension; no formal change to the policy was made during the meeting, and DIAB will await the board office's response and documentation.
