The Apex Town Council began a retreat-style "new initiative development" process at the work session, with staff asking council and participants to populate five stations with ideas that staff will synthesize for leadership.
Town staff said the immediate goal was data collection; a directors' meeting in July will repeat the exercise with leadership, and staff will combine council and leadership inputs from August through September. The combined initiative list will be presented to council during the strategic-planning refresh in September or October.
Staff emphasized that initiatives with fiscal implications would not be included in the upcoming budget cycle and would be planned for the following fiscal year; initiatives without fiscal impacts could begin as early as January. The council completed short station rotations and staff will compile handwritten suggestions and return them as part of the strategic-planning work.
