Sergeant Giacone opens Hoffman Estates Police Department public open house showcasing units and services

Sergeant Giacone, sergeant of the Tactical Action and Community Team, opened the Hoffman Estates Police Department's first public open house in years, introducing Detective Aldana, Commander Levine and Detective Cherrick and outlining station tours and demonstrations for residents.

The event showcased multiple department units, including the drone team, K‑9 unit, detectives, the tactical unit, traffic division and the bike unit. "We're going to be registering bikes, which is awesome," Sergeant Giacone said, adding that officers and civilian staff volunteered to flex schedules so visitors could tour the station during an evening time slot.

Organizers offered safety services on site: car seat installation, community service officers and a department range demonstration. Giacone said the department has "three police social workers full‑time here" who were available to discuss social‑service referrals and community supports.

The department's Community Resource Center was open during the event. Illinois Tollway Tykes staff set up to produce child identification cards—photos with name and phone number—for attendees' children, the sergeant said. Northwest Central Dispatch staged a demonstration in the training room to show how the regional dispatch hub coordinates calls for multiple police and fire agencies.

Giacone emphasized coordination across units, saying some incidents require many resources while others need only a few. The open house also included family activities, such as a coloring contest for grade‑school children. He thanked attendees at the event's close and said organizers hope to hold another open house next year.
