The board approved a $695 waiver for Hangtime Choice Awards, after members noted the organization's youth-prevention work but raised concern about late applications; staff said new rules will require applications 30 days in advance.
The board considered but did not approve a $1,332 waiver request from Waterberry Nights Dance Group (the application indicated a $15 admission charge) and a $1,764 waiver for Catholic Academy (members questioned whether the academy has its own gym and whether the schedule resembled a fee-based camp). Commissioners who opposed these waivers said charging admission without applying fees to the district would be inconsistent with budget constraints.
Board members discussed clarifying whether internal district groups should be treated differently and indicated a forthcoming procedure change to require earlier submissions and clearer fee-waiver standards.
