Waterberry Board approves three principal appointments effective July 1

Commissioner Anthony Ireland moved the appointment of Charelle Herbert as principal of North End Middle School, and the board approved the motion. Superintendent Dr. Schwarz introduced Herbert, noting she "currently serves as an assistant principal at Northn Middle School" and highlighting her 11 years at Sacred Heart and district leadership awards. Herbert accepted and told the board she felt "honored and humbled" to lead North End and outlined commitments to coherence, consistency and sustainability.
The board also approved the appointment of Dana Wallace as principal of Rotella Interdistrict Magnet School. Dr. Schwarz described Wallace's 22 years of service to Waterberry, her experience with magnet enrollment balance and fiscal responsibilities, and said the district looked forward to her continued commitment.
Finally, Carla Fedanza was approved as principal of Wendel Cross PreK–8. Dr. Schwarz and board members cited Fedanza’s years as an assistant principal at Dugen Elementary School and a long classroom career as reasons she was recommended. Fedanza addressed the board and thanked colleagues and family.
All three appointments are effective July 1, 2026. Board members framed these hires as part of an internal leadership transition tied to recent retirements; each candidate gave brief remarks emphasizing student-centered leadership and continuity. No formal budget changes tied to the hires were discussed on the record.
