District says revised grant secures nearly $300,000 for Chromebooks; IT outlines replacement plan

The district's director of IT (identified in the packet) told the board the $300,000 would cover replacement targeted to incoming freshmen and 11th graders and that the district intends to reuse existing laptops in lower grades where possible. The IT explanation included a recommended replacement cycle (four years for high school devices, five to six years for some elementary cycles) and noted device pricing pressures: staff discussed a per-device quote that had risen from around $300 to near $360 in recent months as suppliers and models changed.
Board members and staff discussed device management practices (keeping elementary devices in school to reduce damage, transferring older laptops into elementary inventories) and software costs; staff said switching from Windows laptops to Chromebooks produces savings in device and management costs even as unit prices climb.
The board asked for a future presentation on technology to inform budget planning outside the compressed budget season.
