VSC executive committee votes to recommend pay focus for executive team

The executive committee of the Vermont States Colleges Board of Trustees voted to send a written recommendation to the full board asking it to "focus on pay for [the] executive team" and to continue work on fair and sustainable wages for Vermont States Colleges employees.

The committee first approved the May 4 meeting minutes after a brief procedural motion and second. The group then moved to consider personnel matters in executive session under state law.

Kayla, a staff member who read the motion aloud, said, "the executive committee of the VSC Board of Trustees moves to enter executive session pursuant to uh 1 VSA 313 A3 to discuss the employment of public employees and officials," and noted the board had invited the dean of people and culture and the general counsel to attend. The committee recorded a second and voted to enter executive session.

Technical difficulties with the meeting audio delayed the committee’s breakout into the executive session. Staff member Jason and others walked a participant (Lynn) through switching to phone audio and using her unique participant ID so she could be placed in the breakout; staff confirmed once participants were assigned that the executive session could proceed. The committee announced it was checking out of executive session at 10:51 and returned to the regular meeting.

Immediately after returning, a motion was made that the executive committee prepare a written recommendation for the full board focused on executive-team pay and continued work on systemwide, fair, sustainable wages for employees. The motion was seconded by Megan Cluver and the committee voted in favor.

With no other business, the committee adjourned and noted they would meet again in June. The recommendation will be transmitted to the full Board of Trustees for consideration; no additional details about amounts, timelines or implementation steps were provided in the meeting record.
