Dothan proclaims EMS Week, names EMS award winners and recognizes retiring deputy chief; Walk-On’s liquor license approved

The Dothan City Commission opened its May 19 meeting with a proclamation declaring May 17–23, 2026, Emergency Medical Services Week.
Mayor Mark Saliba read the proclamation and invited Dothan Fire Chief David Hasty and EMS Battalion Chief Richard Byrd to accept. Chief Hasty and Chief Byrd noted EMS Week activities and departmental accomplishments; Chief Hasty said the department recorded 37 returns of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) in the past 12 months, a metric he cited to illustrate EMS outcomes.
The commission honored Ben McCarty with the John T. Ingram EMT of the Year Award and named Sergeant Dalton Quattlebaum the 2026 Paramedic of the Year; presenters highlighted nominees’ advanced certifications, mentorship and clinical leadership. The commission also recognized Deputy Chief Chris Etheredge, who is scheduled to retire June 1 after 32 years of service.
On routine business the commission approved a restaurant retail liquor license for Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux at 3370 Ross Clark Circle after no public commenters came forward on the item, and it approved the May 5 meeting minutes by voice vote.
Mayor and commissioners used the communications period to encourage voter participation in local primaries and to thank staff and community volunteers for recent events.
