Staff described the code-enforcement process: if the commission approves a demolition resolution there is a 10-day posting period before bids are solicited; the city typically must conduct an asbestos investigation before demolition bidding, which can delay physical demolition for roughly a month. Commissioners agreed the owner could be afforded an opportunity to remove occupants and the shed within a practical 30-day window while staff conducts required environmental checks and prepares bid documents.
The commission approved the resolution by voice vote. Staff advised that actual demolition scheduling will depend on the outcome of the asbestos inspection, any required abatement, and the procurement timeline.
The commission directed staff to contact the property owner to clarify the process and offer assistance in understanding required steps and timelines.
