Valley View senior David Zaragoza Quesada honored as Edison Scholar with $50,000 award

The City Council recognized Valley View High School senior David Zaragoza Quesada during the May 19 meeting for his academic achievements and service to the community. Ernesto Daniel Isararas, local public affairs representative for Southern California Edison, described the Edison Scholars program and presented the award.
Staff and council members noted David’s academic record: he was introduced as ranking first in a class of 654 with a 4.0 GPA, engaged in research at UC Riverside, participated in TRIO Upward Bound at Moreno Valley College, and was accepted to Stanford University to study computer engineering. The presented scholarship amount was $50,000; Isararas said Edison awards $50,000 scholarships to 30 students across its service territory each year.
David addressed the council, thanking his family, teachers and the city and saying he plans to pursue computer and electrical engineering and to give back to his community. Councilmembers and the mayor congratulated him and posed for photographs.
