Gregg County approves health department grant recommendations, accepts immunization grant

Gregg County Commissioners Court voted Tuesday to approve the health department's recommendations for local tobacco-fund awards and to accept the county's Department of State Health Services (DSHS) immunization grant for fiscal 2027.
AJ, a health department representative, told the court the county received 10 applications requesting a combined $124,600 while the county budgeted $50,000 for distribution. AJ said two applications were eliminated for not meeting grant guidelines or for incomplete applications and recommended eight organizations for awards as listed in the county packet. AJ asked the court to approve the advisory board's recommendations.
The list of recommended recipients includes Long View Community Ministry, New Gate Methodist Mission, Passes Counseling Center, Wind Ridge, Rahab's Retreating Ranch, Long View Ambu (a new organization), Judson's Lions Club and Grace Community Clinic; the amounts and final award documentation are recorded in the county packet and official minutes. Commissioner Kenny moved to approve the recommendations; the court approved the motion by voice vote.
AJ also presented acceptance of the annual DSHS immunization grant for FY27, which AJ said is unchanged from prior years and noted in the record as the same amount the county has received historically. Commissioner Craig moved approval; the court approved the grant acceptance by voice vote.
