Warner Robins to host gun-surrender event and honors firefighters' MDA fundraising

Mayor Londa W Patrick described Operation Lay It Down as a safe, anonymous opportunity for parents or guardians to surrender unsecured or unaccounted-for firearms so they are not accessible to children or irresponsible adults. The event is scheduled for Nov. 16 at Perkins Field from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the mayor said, and city staff and police will partner with community groups to run the drive.
The council also heard a presentation from a representative of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, who highlighted the fire department's 35-year support and noted recent MDA investments in research, including $8.4 million in new projects last year and several FDA-approved treatments. Mayor and council members presented the department with a ceremonial axe and a check; the transcript records the department raised $66,500 last year through boot drives.
Council members thanked veterans and community partners that helped organize the event and the MDA drive, including local advocates and businesses that support boot collections. The mayor urged residents to publicize the gun-surrender event and to attend veterans activities around Nov. 11.
