Superintendent Stevens opened the Hanover Area School District board meeting on May 12 with a moment of silence for Joe Morris, who served as an in-school suspension monitor and hall monitor at Hanover Area Junior Senior High School for more than a decade.
Stevens highlighted student achievements: the boys varsity wrestling team finished second according to the PIAA PA Wrestling Coaches Association's academic criteria, and student-athletes CJ Canes, Jeffrey Peck, Chase Smith, Chase Thomas and Gregory Vassil met the program's high academic standards. He also noted Victoria Rajo earned a bronze medal at the National French Awards; Flia Martinez/Ramirez placed second in the Northeast chapter of the National French Exam; and Adriana Nelson received a one-time LIU post-secondary scholarship of $1,000 for the 2026-27 academic year.
Staff introduced April Student of the Month Jake Strong. Strong described his extracurricular involvement and EMT certification and said, "I'm standing up here today not as the Student of the Month, but as myself," before thanking his parents and teachers. Stevens announced upcoming events including the high school spring play (May 15—17), the elementary play (May 16), Fork Over Love meal distributions (May 22 and May 27), athletic awards (May 28), the Shine STEM Olympiad (May 30) and graduation on June 4 at 6:00 p.m.
The board later moved to accept the superintendent's report and recorded the motion as carried by voice vote.
