The City of Clermont council completed several formal actions at its May 12 meeting, passing routine consent items and taking votes on a resolution, a variances request and a utility agreement.
Consent agenda: After withdrawing item 8 and pulling items 1 and 12 for discussion, council approved consent items 2–7 and 9–11 by voice vote.
Resolution 2026‑015R (item 12): Councilmember Strange moved — and council approved — two amendments to the evaluation timeline: (1) require the city clerk to include individual scores for each evaluation item in addition to averages; and (2) change the evaluation return deadline from September 1 to August 15, keeping distribution on August 1. The amended resolution passed on a unanimous voice vote.
Variance request—168 E. Lakeshore Drive (item 13): Development Services recommended denial of a pair of variances to locate an in‑ground pool in the front yard and to increase impervious surface ratio (ISR) from 55% to an estimated 57%, citing stormwater and drainage concerns. The applicant said an engineer would be engaged if the council was willing to consider approval. Council approved the pool location in the front yard but conditioned approval of the ISR increase on the applicant providing an engineering report demonstrating the drainage impacts can be mitigated; absent a favorable engineering report the approval remains constrained to the 55% ISR limit. Council additionally required landscaping measures described in the staff packet to reduce visibility and runoff. The motion passed unanimously.
Utility agreement—Islamic Center expansion (item 14): The council approved a utility agreement allowing the Islamic Center of Clermont (15020 John's Lake Road) to connect to city water and sewer services to support a 4,800‑square‑foot worship hall and related site work. The agreement requires the owner to meet city development and design standards and to bear the cost of on‑ and off‑site utility improvements. Council approved the agreement by unanimous vote.
