Water Street Studios reported to the Batavia City Council that it met the occupancy criteria required for its forgivable city loan and is operating programs, galleries and resident‑artist studios at higher utilization.
Jessica Jackman, president of Water Street Studios, said the organization achieved its loan performance metric — 75% or greater occupancy for resident studios — for the last two years and submitted an affidavit of success to the city. She said the organization maintains 25 unique studios (36 residents in total, counting double occupancy), offers monthly gallery exhibitions, adult and youth classes including a clay lab with more than 300 students, and reported about 2,000 gallery visitors this year.
The loan‑forgiveness item (Resolution 2026‑60‑R) appeared on the meeting’s consent agenda and passed as part of that package. Jackman thanked the council and said the organization will continue outreach programs in schools and partner with local nonprofits for community art events. Council members praised Water Street’s programming and the role of volunteers in operating exhibits and public arts projects.
Council accepted the consent agenda that included the loan‑forgiveness authorization; the consent agenda was approved by roll call earlier in the meeting.
