Andrea, the city’s new public works director, told council the department replaced 402 lead water service lines last year and completed more than 7 miles of roadway and 800 squares of sidewalk work across the city. She reported that the wastewater treatment plant processed approximately 875 million gallons and removed about 40,000 pounds of phosphorus during the reporting period. Andrea said the city received full fluoridation compliance from the Illinois Department of Public Health and noted that the utility is participating in a water‑master planning update funded in the current budget.
Andrea described other highlights: three EV chargers installed at the high school and library projects completed earlier in the year, expansion of smart meters, a successful mural project created with broad volunteer participation, and more than 300 trees planted citywide. Staff also described an asset‑management initiative to connect maintenance crews with mobile tools and a multi‑year plan to modernize the electric utility.
Councilmembers praised public‑works staff for storm response and maintenance work; staff said the city is exploring improved people‑count analytics and additional pedestrian counters for targeted locations. Andrea asked council for any additional data they would like reported in next year’s annual summary.
The report will be posted to city communications and staff indicated they will continue to produce annual summaries that highlight accomplishments and capital‑project progress.
