Bowling Green student wins AMP Albie Wright scholarship; Wood County Parks donates $10,000 to city parks

Mayor Aspacher introduced Alex Roth of American Municipal Power, who presented the Albie Wright Scholarship to Bowling Green High School senior Julia Barnett. Roth said AMP’s scholarship program — named for a long-time public power advocate — has awarded more than $500,000 since 1988 to students served by member utilities. He read Barnett’s resume, noting her leadership and extracurricular honors and that she plans to attend Washington University in St. Louis to study biomedical engineering.
A Wood County Parks District representative then presented the city parks with a $10,000 check from a local community parks grant program, delivered a plaque and paperwork for next year, and described the partnership with the city and past cooperative projects. The presenter said the funds had been spent on a jointly owned park project.
Council members offered congratulations to Barnett and thanked the parks board for its support.
