Santa Clara supervisors honor community groups, families and staff with multiple proclamations and awards

President Otto Lee read a commendation recognizing the Guglielmo family of Morgan Hill for a century of winemaking and community hosting; members of the family and guests accepted and offered brief remarks about the family’s Italian heritage and the winery’s community role.
The board proclaimed May as Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Supervisor Betty Du'o'ng traced local AANHPI history and Supervisor Margaret Abe‑Koga highlighted that the county’s population is nearly 40% AANHPI and said the board’s AANHPI majority is notable. Vice President Sylvia Arenas and other officials thanked community partners and cultural organizations for celebrating the month.
Other proclamations recognized Internal Audit Awareness Month (with Adnan Raheem of the Institute of Internal Auditors speaking on auditors’ role in transparency), Emergency Medical Services Week (the EMS agency described coordinated countywide response and data efforts), Older Americans Month (the Department of Aging and Adult Services summarized meal‑site, home‑delivered meals and in‑home care programs), Resource Parent Appreciation Month and Family Reunification Day (speakers included resource parents who described foster‑care and reunification successes).
Supervisor Margaret Abe‑Koga also read a light‑hearted proclamation designating May 16–23 as “BTS Week” to acknowledge the K‑pop group’s concerts in the county; Debra, vice president for the arts at Stanford University, thanked county departments for coordinating permits, safety and operations to host large stadium concerts.
The board presented Athena awards, retiree commendations (including Lisa Flores), and monthly employee excellence awards across multiple departments; county staff and award recipients were invited to the dais for certificates and photos.
These items were presented as ceremonial recognitions; no substantive policy votes were taken during the proclamations portion of the meeting. The board closed with group photographs and adjournment until the next morning.
