Senior Director Steph and other staff reviewed comparisons with neighboring districts and explained the rationale for increases in most categories to offset additional staffing and custodial costs created by heavy rentals. The proposal leaves stadium/turf fees unchanged and proposes clearer permit and equipment charges for spaces such as auditoriums and kitchens where specialized staffing or licensing applies.
Staff said the district wants to remain affordable and equitable for local users while covering overtime and site-supervision costs that previously were absorbed by custodial staff. The proposal includes a suggested implementation date of July 1 (the new fiscal year); staff also recommended putting the schedule on a regular review cycle (about every two years) so the board can reassess fees and staffing impacts.
Board members asked about grandfathering existing bookings, the expected revenue impact, and whether the proposed fees would cover custodial overtime and site supervisors. Staff said bookings already made would be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and that the new permit structure aims to better reflect true operating costs. Staff indicated they will return in June with the formal item for board consideration.
The board did not take a vote at the presentation; the item is scheduled for formal consideration next month.
