Toledo board approves P. Ryan Lockwood III as treasurer; interim term begins June 1

The Toledo Public Schools Board of Education voted unanimously on May 19 to approve P. Ryan Lockwood III as interim treasurer beginning June 1, 2026 and as treasurer for a term running August 1, 2026 through July 31, 2028. The board cited Ohio statutory authority for hiring the district’s chief fiscal officer and described the move as an expedited, continuity-focused hire.

Board members congratulated Lockwood and thanked the outgoing treasurer for service. "We are excited that you're going to help us get through this," Mr. Vasquez said after reading the resolution approving Lockwood’s interim appointment and subsequent term. The resolution cites Ohio Revised Code §3313.22 as authority for employing a treasurer.

Lockwood addressed the board and attendees, thanked the district and committee, and described his prior experience, including work at Springfield Local Schools where he said he grew carryover balances from $600,000 to a healthier level. He emphasized his commitment to special education and to helping students gain life skills after high school: "I want to make sure that those kids get the life skills needed to live a successful life past high school," Lockwood said.

Vote and terms: The resolution passed by roll call with all members present voting yes: Mr. Parker; Mrs. Barwig; Miss Barnes; Mrs. Gerkin; Mr. Vasquez. The interim appointment covers June 1–July 31, 2026; the full employment term specified in the resolution is August 1, 2026–July 31, 2028.
