Funk also listed grant opportunities the legislature provided, including behavioral-health and mental-health crisis grants and a change allowing operating capital to be used for utilities.
Board members pressed for clarification after staff confirmed the $2,142 figure is district-wide (not a typo) and noted allocations vary widely across districts; staff cited examples of districts seeing millions in changes under different formulae and said some charter schools received large one-time amounts under the distribution method.
Finance staff presented the required spring budget revision for 2025–26, citing increases to special-education transportation reimbursements (historic timing of reimbursements), federal and state grant revenues, community-service tuition changes and building/construction bond proceeds. On the expenditure side, the revision included grant-related spending, salary and benefit adjustments and food-service cost increases tied to higher food and milk prices. The board approved the revision by roll-call vote (6–0).
Board members later approved two routine resolutions by roll call: continued membership in the Minnesota State High School League and a resolution rescinding an unrequested leave of absence to return a teacher to active status; both passed unanimously.
