St. Louis Park honors Vietnam veteran William E. Davies with Service Beyond Service Award

The St. Louis Park City Council presented a proclamation honoring William E. Davies for his military service and community contributions, and recognizing him as a recipient of the 2026 Service Beyond Service Award.
The proclamation recited Davies’s U.S. Army service from December 1967 to December 1969, including service with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam from May 1968 to May 1969, and cited military honors listed in the proclamation. The council credited his volunteer leadership across local organizations including Rotary, the St. Louis Park Senior Center, youth sports associations and American Legion Post 282.
William E. Davies spoke briefly after accepting the proclamation, thanking his wife Kay and naming friends and fellow volunteers including John Hines and members of the American Legion. He explained a bit about the 40&8 veterans organization referenced in the proclamation and said he learned he had been recognized at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial ceremony in Washington, D.C., but was unable to attend due to health reasons. “I was the only one from the state of Minnesota that was recognized,” he said, adding he felt deeply honored.
Council members offered brief remarks thanking Davies for his service and contributions to the community. The presentation was followed by a short additional recognition: a $2,000 check to ParkTacular from the sponsoring organization.
