Board approves consent agenda, meeting schedule, press policy and athletic-training contract

The Galena City School District board handled routine and governance business, approving several motions by roll call votes.

Consent agenda: The board approved the consent agenda (items 5.1–5.10), which included personnel actions; administrators noted four student hires for summer work. John moved to approve the consent agenda; the motion was seconded and passed on roll call.

School-day athletic event: Trustees voted to approve a school-day girls basketball game scheduled for Jan. 20 at 1:00 p.m., with planners keeping an alternate date in mind for weather. The motion to approve the event passed.

Press policy: The board approved the second and final reading of press policy issue 121 as presented. The policy package had been linked to board documents for review; trustees approved it by roll call.

Meeting schedule and location: Trustees designated the third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. as the regular meeting date and approved, as a trial, moving June and July meetings to the Primary School meeting room (219 Kelly Lane) to use that site’s meeting space and audiovisual setup. The motion passed.

Athletic training contract: The board approved an athletic training services contract with Midwest Medical Center for the 2026–27 school year; trustees noted a 3% contract increase and a $155 concussion-testing fee per the contract language. The motion to approve the contract passed on roll call.

Each of the above motions was moved, seconded and approved during the meeting; where roll calls were recorded the board answered in the affirmative and the motions were carried.
