Carol Holloway, 1509 Foxwood Drive, spoke during petitions and comments to report repeated instances of trash and recycling bins being left in the street and to request follow-up and compensation for damage to her vehicle.
Holloway described calling the town's waste division after recycling bins were left in the middle of her driveway on April 30. She said while driving on Buffalo Road a recycling bin remained at the curb and she struck it while maneuvering to avoid another vehicle. She said the collision damaged her passenger-side rearview mirror and that the repair estimate is about $960.
"I have a $960 bill that I have to pay to get my car repaired," Holloway said, asking council to investigate and to advise whether compensation is available.
Town officials told her the complaint would be recorded and routed to the town attorney and relevant staff; the mayor said she would be followed up with and thanked her for bringing the issue to the council's attention.
The exchange prompted council staff to note that the town contracts with a private vendor for waste pickup and that staff would investigate repeated placement of bins in roadways and follow up with the resident on next steps.
