Kandiyohi County approves road vacation, accepts Diamond Lake boat‑access project and awards striping contract

Kandiyohi County commissioners on May 19 approved several public‑works actions recommended by Public Works Director Mel Loens.
Loens asked the board to post notice and adopt Resolution 2026‑23 to vacate a portion of unused right‑of‑way on Northshore Drive at the request of property owners Richard and Michelle Schaefer; the board approved the resolution by voice vote.
Loens also recommended accepting the completed Diamond Lake west boat‑access reconstruction project (work began Aug. 6, 2025, and finished Oct. 24, 2025) and authorizing final payment of $5,132.34 to Brower Construction LLC of Raymond, Minnesota. The board approved acceptance and final payment.
Finally, Loens recommended awarding the annual grooved wet reflective edgeline striping contract (42 miles; 90% federally funded, ~10% county match) to Sir Lines of Edina, Minnesota (bid $270,673.78) for project SP34‑070‑16; the board approved the award. Loens said the striping is included in the county’s five‑year construction program and roughly $27,000 of county levy supports the local match.
Each item passed on voice votes; staff will proceed with standard contract close‑out and permit enforcement as applicable.
