Students ask county for support for Catskill Spring Rush Triathlon and 5K

Members of the Catskill High School Business Club presented the 20th annual Catskill Spring Rush Triathlon and an accompanying Sprint 5K to the county’s economic development and tourism committee and asked for logistical support and promotion.
"My name is Katie Cummings. We are students from the Catskill High School Business Club and we're here to present the 20th annual Catskill Spring Rush Triathlon... taking place on Saturday, May 30th, 2026," Katie Cummings said, outlining the student-run nature of the event and its role in the group’s marketing curriculum.
Natalie Santos described the course and schedule: the triathlon will include a 5K run, a 15K bike ride and a kayak segment along Capillip Creek with a triathlon start at 8:30 a.m. and the sprint 5K at 9:30 a.m.; registration opens at 7 a.m. "This is a fully student-run event," Santos said, emphasizing the experiential learning component and community partnerships.
Nolan Burn, speaking for safety, said the course will be supported by student volunteers, teachers, local police, fire departments, EMS and public works, and noted a safety-planning meeting set for Wednesday, May 27 at 2:30 p.m. in the Catskill High School library.
The students asked for permission to use village and town rooms and other public spaces, coordination with public safety agencies, and assistance promoting the event. The committee thanked the students and indicated a willingness to help connect them with the appropriate offices.
Next steps: organizers will coordinate with local police, public works and the tourism office on permits, safety planning, and promotion; the committee offered contacts and asked the students to follow up with staff.
