Board approves two annexations and declares county drought emergency in 2–0 votes

At the May 19 meeting, the Curry County Board of Commissioners took three formal actions by roll call votes.
Annexations: The board opened a public hearing on two landowner-initiated annexations under ORS 198.857 (annexation without election). No landowners or members of the public spoke. The board approved BOC annexation number 26-01 and BOC annexation number 26-02 (Gold Beach Rural Fire Protection District) by motions and 2–0 votes.
Drought declaration: The board reviewed a presentation describing countywide conditions — moderate drought designation, low stream flows, and forecasts calling for above-average temperatures and below-average precipitation through summer and fall — and voted 2–0 to declare a Curry County drought emergency and to ask the governor’s office for a state declaration and assistance.
Consent agenda: The board also approved the consent agenda by a 2–0 vote; commissioners noted a new aquatic-safety grant from the Bandon Dunes Charitable Foundation.
Meeting minutes record the motions and outcomes and staff said they will forward the drought declaration to the governor’s office and proceed with standard administrative steps for the annexations.
